Sorry for our late updating. In this post we will report about our previous activities.
In the English Time in July we set a theme, “know more about Taiwan, Japan, and Saga.”
Then, we divided us into three groups and each group was in charge of a theme and made presentations for each other. I’m going to summarize what the groups presented!
 
About Taiwan:

• Capital City: Taipei
• Area: 36,000km²
• Population: 23,570,000
• Time difference between japan and Taiwan: 1 hour
• Climate: the subtropics in northern Taiwan and the tropics in south
• Industry:
  High-tech industry and IT industry has highly developed. Many kinds of parts for computers such as memory, semiconductors, etc. is manufactured in Taiwan and the major trading partners of the products are Japan and The U.S. for a long time.
• Popular spots:

- Miyahara (宮原眼科):
While the name, “宮原眼科(Miyahara eye hospital)” sounds not like sweets store, it is a sweets store in Taichung that represents “dawancake, 日出” group. Originally, the building of the store was used for an eye hospital in Japanese colonial period.
- Night markets:
 Night markets are the street markets a lot of stores and hawkers gather and open from the evening. In the markets there are a lot of food, clothes or shoes stores and hawkers, and it’s bustling with many tourists.
 
About Japan:

• Area: 378,000km²
  The area of Taiwan is as large as that of Kyushu, Japan
• The number of tourists (per year)
  - Taiwan to Japan: 4,564053
  - Japan to Taiwan: 1,895,702
• Japanese inventions
  -  Compact Disk (CD), QR code, Karaoke, Rice cooker, etc.

 
About Saga:

• Population: 850,000
• < >- Karatsu Kunchi (唐津くんち)

The Karatsu Kunchi is an annual fall festival that held in November 2, 3 and 4. It is the fall festival of the Karatsu shrine and the biggest event in Karatsu city. Another way of writing “Kunchi(くんち)” is “供日(the meaning is the day for offering harvest to the god)”. As you can see from the name, this festival is put in gratitude for harvest.
- Saga International Balloon Fiesta
     The Saga International Balloon Fiesta is an event of hot air balloons held in every fall and attract around one million of visitors. It is one of the biggest balloon competitions not only in Japan but also in the Asia in numbers of balloons. This event is attended by 70-80 balloons from ten or more countries every year. In some balloon events one of the competitions is called “task”. That compete how accurate pilots can drop a sandbag called marker to the assigned target.
 
In this presentation, we can learned not only just the basic knowledge of Taiwan but about the relationship between Japan and Taiwan, and about Saga. Learning the basic knowledge before visiting Taiwan would make our studying in Taiwan more meaningful. And we will get ready to introduce ourselves well in English.

7月のEnglish　Timeでは台湾・日本・佐賀についてもっと知ろうというテーマで、3つの班に分かれてお互いに発表を行いました。メンバーが発表したことをまとめたいと思います！

 

台湾について

 

・首都：台北

・面積：36,000km²

・人口：23,570,000人

・日本との時差：1時間

・気候：北が亜熱帯、南は熱帯地域

 

・産業

ハイテク産業・IT産業が発展しています。メモリーや半導体など多くのコンピューター部品が台湾で生産されていて、貿易相手国としてはアメリカと日本が長期にわたって大きな比重を占めています。

 

・観光

宮原眼科：「宮原眼科」はお菓子屋さんとは思えない名前をもつ「日出」グループを代表する台中にあるお店です。もともとの建物は日本統治時代に「眼科」として使用されていたものとなっています。

夜市：夜市は夕方からになってから多くの露天や店が開く市場のことです。この夜市では食べ物や服や靴などの屋台がたくさんあり、多くの観光客で賑わっています。

 

日本について

 

・面積：378,000km²

台湾と九州の面積がほぼ同じぐらいの大きさとなっています。

・観光客数

台湾→日本：4,564,053人　　日本→台湾：1,895,702人

日本の発明品

佐賀について

 

・人口：850,000人

・佐賀のお祭り

唐津くんち

「唐津くんち」は毎年11月2、3、4日に開催される唐津神社の秋季例大祭で唐津市の最大の行事となっています。「くんち」とは「供日」とも書き、収集感謝の意がこめられているお祭りです。

佐賀インターナショナルバルーンフェスタ

「佐賀インターナショナルバルーンフェスタ」は、毎年秋に開催され、100万人が訪れる熱気球のイベントです。熱気球競技大会としては日本国内のみならずアジアで最大級の参加機数の大会であり、毎年十数ヵ国の選手が70 - 80機参加しています。バルーン競技のうち種目の一つである「タスク」では、マーカーと呼ばれる砂袋をバルーンの上から所定のゴールに向かって投げ落とし、その正確さを競うというものです。

 

 

 

 

今回の発表で台湾の基礎的な知識に加えて、日本と台湾との関係や佐賀について知ることができました。台湾に行く前に基本的な知識を知ることでこの台湾

研修がさらに有意義なものになることでしょう。また、英語でしっかりとした自己紹介をできるように準備していこうと思います。
