Activity Report

Today, I want to introduce the ambition of the new members.

I'm Makoto MIYAZAKI. I started participating in STEPs from this year. I'm thrilled to be able to do various exchanges in STEPs. Each departments are correlated in Faculty of Science and Engineering, so I look forward to do exchanges with men who belong to other departments. I like experiencing different cultures, so exchanges with overseas people are fascinating. I will have a challenge without fearing failure in STEPs. I will change all my experiencing into my grow! Thank you for putting up with me！

I’m Masao Yoshijima, student of Mechanical Engineering Department.
I have become used to STEPs activity after I took part in some times.
I joined in STEPs because I want to study English more. I’m not good at listening and speaking in English because I have rarely talked in English. The other day, I was overwhelmed by English conversation skill of overseas students when we talked with them in English.
So, I want to be good at listening and speak smoothly in English. I’m glad to make your acquaintance.

Hello, I'm Tsuji Shigeyuki and I'm a third grade physics student. The reason for my participation in STEPS is that I want to speak English smoothly which I had ever studied to read and write. Honestly, I'm not good at English. When I was high school student, I wanted to work without English in the future. But now in　international community, l fully feel English is needed. When I participated in STEPS for the first time, I thought it is necessary for speaking English but also hearing. Hearing　well is the best for communication. Now, I'm not enough speaking skill and hearing skill. But I think I will develop my English skill by presentation in STEPS.

I am sorry for the delay in the report. This year’s leader is Yohei Inokuchi.
This year member is 7 people (fourth grader : 4 ,third grader : 2 , special member : 1).
I am glad that we can enjoy talking in the every meeting. Members of last year also participate in a meeting of the every week.
Also, the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of the department of science and engineering was held on Saturday, May 21. Then, we introduced our STEPs and reported the activity of last year.

Here, I write about themes up to the present.
「Self-introduction」「Importance of Casual English」
「What do you want to do if you have a million yen?」
「Which countries do you want to go to, and what will you do there?」
「What is your hobby?」
「What kind of pet do you want to have?」

Professor Khan talked about importance of Casual English in the time of the self-introduction. Next topic was “What will you do if you have a million yen?” Then, there are persons who want to have an own car, and there is the person who wants comic books. The meeting of the last time was “What kind of pet do you want to have?” It was raised goldfish and cats, and there is the person who doesn’t want to have pets more because he have enough pets.

I feel everyone is gradually used to speaking English recently. I hope every meeting will be good!

  We had the last meeting as the 5th STEPs members on 26th February and looked back to this year. The members wrote the report about the contents of our meetings and exchanges with foreign students.
  The 5th STEPs started the activity from May. In the meetings, we practiced English conversation with enjoying English Corner. Thanks to it, on overseas training, we talked with many Indonesian students fluently and had a good time there.
  Next year, the 6th STEPs whose leader is Yohei will start. It is difficult to organize a team, but I want him to lead the team as a leader by reminding this year's activity and applying it with other members.
  Also, many professors and officers have supported our activity. Prof. Ohto gave us many opinions and planed our overseas training. Ass. Prof. Khan taught us English and foreign cultures. Ms. Shimokoba, Ms. Mutaguchi and Mr. Tamanoi supported us when we exchanged with foreign students and went to Indonesia.
  We are very grateful for your cooperation!

We talked about “review of this year” in English Corner on 16th December. This was the 15th time this school year, and it warmed up very much. Then I thought the members’ English skill became better than first time. Before we visited Indonesia, it was very difficult to talk in English with thinking, so our meeting was like “speech” rather than talking and it was not so interesting for me. However, after that, our English Corner were more active and we could enjoy talking in English. It was because we could talk without cheating sheet. I think continuing effort is important for us.

Three STEPs members joined “KAKEHASHI Project”, and went to New York to introduce Arita Porcelain, Japanese Sake and so on to LaGuardia Community College’s students. They saw our presentation about how to make Arita Porcelain and drank “YuYuChisui” which is Japanese Sake made in Saga University and Japanese tea. We enjoyed exchanging with them. When we were selected in KAKEHASHI Project members, we had little knowledge about Arita Porcelain and Japanese Sake. So, they learned about Arita Porcelain in Arita town and took lectures about Japanese Sake from students of department of agriculture.

I was very glad that American students was interested in them, and that we shared Saga’s culture with them.
Next school year, STEPs will be 6th. I wish 6th STEPs becomes closer and more aggressive team than 5th team.

We had an international interaction meeting with Southeast Asian students on October 15th. They came to Saga University to attend “SAKURA Exchange Program in Science”. And they exchanged with STEPs members after they had taken their lectures. They told us about each their countries’ cultures and food, and answered our questions clearly. I thought that their active attitude was very good, so I’d like to act aggressively like them.
Daiki and Haruno were praised their English skill by foreign students and their professors. I want to get a good English skill like them, so I will study harder.
Foreign exchange students are from India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. I talked about Japanese culture, Japanese food, and so on with Indonesian students. I wanted to talk with them, however we don’t have enough time to interact them. So, Daiki and I attended the welcome party held by Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture. For this reason, I was able to have enough time to talk some topics about Japan and their countries. I have never attended such a party, but I enjoyed eating dinner with them. I want to participate such a meeting if I have a chance.
