Activity Report

In March 21, we held the STEPs Alumni and we could hear very precious stories that predecessors established the STEPs. And we were given motivations. Thank you for participation in our Alumni. We are planning to hold an Alumni also next year similarly to this year. Please tell us your precious experiments again.

Also, in March 24, A graduation ceremony of Saga University was held, Mr. YOSHIDA and Ms. KUROIWA they were 2nd grade student graduated STEPs. Mr. YOSHIDA, Ms. KUROIWA, Thank you so much for leading STEPs for a long time. We look forward to meeting you again at Alumni. We pray your success.

I look back on 2017 and want to report the activity of STEPs.

In April, I did announcement for invitation of the STEPs participant in a dean prize giving. I was afraid whether activity participants gathered, but it was good that interested students came. And new STEPs was formed. We made a plan of this aim and activity content of one year in the first activity.

Once a week, we mainly did English Time activity. The person who was in charge of on that day decided a title and widened a story based on the title. There was the day when a foreign student participated in English Time. Furthermore, we interchanged when foreign countries were visited. We were introduced to the native place country from Ms. Kathleen Schnaars who is a doctoral course student from Dresden University of Technology in Germany and Mr. Sami Ferdjani who is a teacher of the University of Burgundy in France. In addition, we were introduced from the students who promoted a language lounge in Saga University library, experienced a language lounge and interchanged with international students from Indonesia.

We did overseas training in September. We visited the Institute Pertanian Bogor in Indonesia and interchanged with the students of the department of science and engineering. We were really taken care of by Computer Science students. It was very good that we could watch a tradition and a technique of Bogor because we experienced the Indonesian musical instrument by cultural exchange and observed the company which cooperated with a university. We could enlarge the field of vision to the foreign countries by learning other culture and improve English skill by doing the interchange with local people. After return home from Indonesia, we reported the overseas training to the president of Saga University.

In December, we interchanged with overseas people of a specialized university making ships called PPNS SHIPS.
I feel that a talk became fun in English Time every week. I want to think about the title that anyone can be interested in to be able to heap up English Time more.

By the activity of 2018, I think about the establishment of STEPs Alumni newly. Because we are STEPs in the seventh quarter, I want to get opinion and advice from senior members.

We STEPs visited Bogor, Indonesia for a week at the end of September.

All members spread own view point through experiencing precious things and learning the difference of culture and climate from Japan. Like knowing ourselves by seeing around us, we reminded good points and characteristics of Japan deeply through this overseas training.

We visited Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and made Indonesian friends. Of course we interacted with them in English. I found their pronunciation. It reminded me that there are various English pronunciation in the world. I think it’s similar to Japan, because we have various Japanese dialects in our small country. I realized that I had overlooked it for a while, because I have taken it for granted. I wanna get used to various English through interaction with international students in future activities.

Moreover, I noticed new tasks as a “Japanese” in this training.

Firstly we need to talk to someone on our own, regardless of our English skill. I didn’t talk to Indonesian students so much on my own. Japan is known as “Shame culture” because we’re often afraid of shame. I wanna try not to be afraid of it in my daily life.

Next, I found that we are often in trouble when we explain about Japan because we don’t know about Japan deeply. So we need not only to brush up English skill but also to get knowledge about our country. We’ll learn about not only visiting countries but also Japanese attractive points in future activities.
 

Finally, we deeply appreciate the people who supported us for our overseas training.

We got high motivation and precious experiences through this training.

We wanna make use of these experiences and be people who can be active in the world.

Hello! I’m Yuto Misaka and fourth-grade student majoring Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
It has been three years since I entered Saga University, I’ve never interacted with foreigners. I want to do these experiences while my university life, So I decided to enter STEPs.
I’m not good at English and communication with others, so I want to improve skills of English and communications through the activities of STEPs.
First, I want to be able to speak self-introduction in English in front of people and I want to have various activities enjoyably!



Hello, I’m Nako Fuchiwaki. I’m a senior student at the department chemistry and applied chemistry. I’ll join the STEPs from this semester. I heard about its activities that the members use mainly English. I thought it’s a good opportunity for me to join it because I like English. This is the reasons why I joined STEPs. Also I’m looking forward to interacting with international students and study trip. I like English, but I don’t speak English fluently, so I want to brush up my language skill through the STEPs activities. Moreover, I want to get new knowledge and thinking, and spread my view point.

We usually get together in 2nd lecture on Wednesday and do English Time that is possible to speak only English.We also interact with foreign students.
Our objects are that Contribution to the globalization of Saga University and Improvement of the cooperativity,positiveness and Expansion our view point to the world and Japan.
In overseas training,we are going to go Indonesia!
STEPs is association of excellent students.This association is not big,but I think we can get good experience through this activity.Nice to meet you.
